Parable of the Rich Fool

September 01, 2019 | Kris Vos

In our next installment in the Lavish series, Jesus tells a story of the rich fool. The rich fool focuses all his attention on accumulation. He stores up more and more grain in his barns to secure his wealth. His wealth pushes him deeper and deeper into narcissism. St. Augustine summarizes the folly of the rich fool this way: "He did not realize that the bellies of the poor were much safer storerooms than his barns." In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus calls us to put the priorities of His Kingdom at the forefront of our energy and resources. If we can do that, we will never lack for anything.
