Series: Pursuit of the King

Pursuit of the King | Ahab

December 27, 2020 | Kris Vos
It is only fitting that we end a horrible year with a horrible king. We have looked at four of the great kings of Israel this month culminating with the the greatest King of all on Christmas Eve. This Sunday, December 27 we will take a look at one last king: Ahab. Ahab is better known for his evil wife Jezebel. The story of Ahab and Jezebel is overshadowed by the prophet Elijah. Elijah, and to a lesser extent Obadiah, challenges the evil ways of Ahab and Jezebel. It culminates in what I think of as the "OK Corral" of the Old Testament. It is a showdown on Mt. Carmel. Elijah pits the God of Israel against the would be god Baal. Elijah wants Ahab, Jezebel and all the people of Israel to see the power of the true God on display. He is up to his eyeballs in the foolish following of a stone god that doesn't exist.

Series Information

Our Christmas series is called Pursuit of the King. The Good News is the King is not far from anyone of us. He has revealed Himself. He does not conquer our wills with the force of His power and might (though He could). He overwhelms us with His grace. Join us at Sunlight this Christmas season as we pursue the King.
