Friendship is one of the central pieces of Job's journey. In fact much of the book is filled with advice from Job's friends. Unfortunately for Job, his friends give bad advice. Friends who give poor counsel are better than no friends at all, right? Job's friends, unknowingly, prepare him for his encounter with God. They serve as the foil to God's revelation of Himself.
The problem of human suffering is one of the greatest barriers to faith. Many of you cannot believe in a God who would sit by and allow so much pain and suffering. Allow it He does, but "sit by" He does not. The story of Job reveals a God who is intimately bound up with humanity. God loves Job.
