What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus Christ?

As we read Scripture and seek to understand what it means to be a disciple of the Jesus, we condense it into 4 things.  These 4 things are like a propeller.  If you have ever driven a boat with a damaged propeller you know it can threaten to tear the boat apart!  All 4 pieces of following Christ are essential:

  1. Education - Acts 2 says that they devoted themselves to the apostle's teaching.  Listening closely to Pastor Kris' messages, personal study of God's Word, and attending a small group are all ways to learn more about God's Word.
  2. Community - Acts 2 tells us that the early church enjoyed an amazing love and encouragement for each other.  Showing up at church events of all kinds grows our hearts for each other.
  3. Service - Acts 2 also records that the church "added to their number daily those who were being saved".  The early church had an impact in their community.  We believe that we have been sent by God to build His Kingdom one kind deed and one life at a time.
  4. Worship - Acts 2 said the early church gathered daily to praise God!  We don't gather that often.  But corporate worship and private worship are vital to our spiritual life.  Hearing God's Word, celebrating Baptism and Lord's Supper as well as singing beautiful music to God are all part of the worship experience.
